SPEAKER INTERVIEW - Tatiana Serova
Can you provide an overview of your conference topic/session?
There will be 2 topics we would like to touch:
Topic #1: Seeing technology as the future of professional logistics, A.R.T. continue to develop its online tools, while strengthening its presence in the Eurasian market. We’ll introduce an online tool which will allow to calculate hundreds of routes, door-to-door for Belt and Road routes. This tool is now using internally between our offices involved in providing of this service, and some of our clients from logistics industry. It will also show to the users the next train and schedule available. Such kind of online rates schedule system is widely used in seafreight industry, but is quite new for Railway.
Topic #2: Looking at the obvious success of OBOR strategy, we see, that there is also a potential for development of different logistics products, in frame of this concept. Besides of well-known and already very popular container's block trains, the next step will be development of conventional rail transportation by wagons and platforms, including transportation of OOG (not bigger than 1, 2 level) cargo via OBOR.
We consider delivery of such a cargo all the way by rail from China to Europe via Dostyk or Zabaikalsk. Trucking option in some cases can be also considered. This service has no subsidies and can be interesting for transit time optimization at a certain, but not critical difference in transportation costs.
Why is this an important topic to discuss?
Regarding the Online Calculator for container shipments: The rapid growth of requests for transportation along the New Silk Road has led A.R.T. to develop its own online rates calculator for shipments between China, Europe and Russia. This allowed our operating offices in Hong Kong and Frankfurt and our global clients to immediately calculate the cost of transportation on more than 400 door–to–door routes. After the completion of the current testing phase, our customers will be able to calculate the cost of transportation, check trains schedules, place bookings and see the status of all their orders online. Such an online tool is already quite common for the shipping industry but for rail transport this product will be almost revolutionary.
For delivery of OOG cargo by rail instead of by sea: Rail freight is one of the most in-demand and advantageous services on trade routes in Eurasia now. Equipment that used to be sent from China to Europe by sea, or vice versa, involving several transshipments and months of transit time can now be brought twice as rapidly by rail through Dostyk or Zabaikalsk. Of course, it is necessary to take into account the cost of transportation and possible advantages and disadvantages. But, as a whole, we see that this is becoming one more promising product of One Belt and Road.
What can attendees expect to learn and discover from your session?
In terms to discuss IT solution for Logistics, we can say, that our online tool might be very interesting for players in our industry. As already mentioned, such an online tool is already quite common for the shipping industry but for rail transport this product will be almost revolutionary.
For the Rail delivery, there will be also a new solution for many players who currently use only a seafreight for their heavy cargo. We can share our expertise and explain some technical points how to organize delivery from China to Europe or CIS countries by Rail.
